Certifications

East Tennessee Lions Eye Bank currently holds a three-year accreditation from the EBAA (Eye Bank Association of America), the highest possible certification awarded by the governing body of the most respected eye banks in the US.

EBAA accreditation is not required for an eye bank to operate, and those who are awarded a three-year accreditation can be trusted by surgeons to have the highest possible standards.

The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) inspects each eye bank before they are allowed to operate in order to determine if they are acceptable institutions for the recovery, processing, and distribution of human tissue for transplantation.
